What We Collect

Swallow collects the minimum data needed to provide wine recommendations:

• Photos you take — sent to our server for wine list extraction, then discarded. We do not store your photos on our servers.
• Your preferences — occasion, style, food pairing, and budget selections you make for each session. These are sent to generate recommendations and are not stored on our servers after the request completes.
• Taste profile — if you create one, it is stored locally on your device only.
• History — your session history (photos, preferences, recommendations, notes, ratings) is stored locally on your device only.
• Device identifier — a random anonymous ID generated on first launch, used solely for request logging and debugging. It is not linked to your identity.

How We Process Your Data

When you scan a wine list, your photo is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude AI for text extraction. When you request recommendations, your preferences are sent to Claude to generate personalized picks. These requests are processed in real time and not stored after completion.

Third-Party Services

• Anthropic (Claude AI) — processes wine list images and generates recommendations. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Google Cloud Run — hosts our backend server. Subject to Google Cloud's Privacy Notice.

What We Don't Do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not use your data for advertising.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not require an account or collect your name, email, or any personal information.

Data Retention

Server-side request logs (containing the anonymous device ID and request metadata) are kept in memory only and are cleared when the server restarts. No persistent server-side storage of user data exists.

Your Rights

Since all personal data is stored on your device, you have full control. Delete the app to remove all local data. There is no server-side data to request deletion of.

Children

Swallow is not intended for use by anyone under 21 years of age, consistent with legal drinking age requirements.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
